INTERNATIONAL PARTICIPATIVE WORKSHOP

International participative workshop

On the 4th of March 2016, and under the policy accelerator pillar of SHAAMS ENPI CBC Med project, BIAT organized a participative workshop entitled: “Technical prerequisite to develop standards to connect renewable resources generator to the grid” under the theme: “Dilemmas of solar energy across the regions: raising the case of each country”.

The workshop was held with the collaboration of Order of Engineers and Architects in Tripoli and LGBC North at the premises of the OEA- Tripoli.

The main objective of this Seminar was to discuss the challenges encountered to connect Renewable Energy resources to the EDL grid and how to overcome the difficulties in order to facilitate the application by renewable energy developers of the net metering.

The Seminar started with a welcome speech of Mr. Hamze Obeid – BIAT /SHAAMS Project Coordinator.

Following this speech, Eng. Alaa Qarawi (the planning department manager at IDECO Jordan and an expert in distribution planning, renewable energy, integration and economic valuation, etc.) presented for around 45 minutes the technical requirements needed to develop renewable resources and connection to the grid, as a necessary for the Promotion of Solar Photovoltaic Energy in Lebanon. The aim is to discuss the suggested steps needed to be fulfilled in order to facilitate to connection to the Lebanese Grid.

Then, Mr. Jil Amin outlined the success stories managed by DREG program to develop show cases and pilot projects of significant size and take advantages of the subsided portion from DREG.

Finally, a Q&A session moderated by Eng. El Sheikh Mohamad ALAYA (director at EDL and senior strategist and manager in electricity sector) followed the seminar where participants had the opportunity to highlight the existence of technical barriers and some suggestions and improvements that may be taken into account for the net metering.
