PROTECHMED is a transnational Interreg NEXT MED project promoting sustainable protected horticulture by improving water and energy efficiency in Mediterranean greenhouses. Eight project partners and eight associate partners from Greece, Italy, Türkiye, Lebanon, and Tunisia are developing, testing, and validating five innovative solutions, while creating a repository of best practices, a Transnational Living Lab, training activities, pilot blueprints, and a regional agri-cluster.
BIAT leads stakeholder engagement and business-support activities in Lebanon, working with horticultural SMEs, farmers, public authorities, and other ecosystem actors. Its role includes feasibility analysis, Living Lab facilitation, training and coaching, valorisation planning, and business-model development. Participating enterprises test technologies including precision irrigation, AI-driven climate control, hydroponics, and automated greenhouse systems, helping translate technical innovation into practical and commercially viable solutions.
